La neurotoxicité développementale est tout effet nocif sur la chimie, la structure ou le fonctionnement du système nerveux dû à une influence chimique ou physique s’exerçant au stade du développement, c’est-à-dire chez un fœtus ou un jeune enfant.
Selon l'EFSA les molécules acétamipride et imidaclopride peuvent notamment
- endommager le système nerveux humain en développement, en particulier le cerveau,
- affecter de façon défavorable le développement des neurones et des structures cérébrales associées à des fonctions telles que l'apprentissage et la mémoire,
- présentent tous deux des signes de potentiel de neurotoxicité développementale
L’EFSA recommande que des critères clairs et cohérents soient établis pour rendre obligatoire la soumission d’études sur la neurotoxicité développementale dans le cadre du processus d’autorisation dans l’UE.
